Call for Rising Stars in Machine Learning

The University of Maryland Center for Machine Learning invites graduate students, postdocs and junior industry researchers from underrepresented groups to apply to its Rising Stars in Machine Learning program. People who identify as women, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, or living with disabilities are underrepresented in computer science and machine learning. The goal of this program is to support machine learning researchers from these underrepresented groups as they pursue new scientific discoveries and academic opportunities.

Applications for the 2023 Rising Stars in Machine Learning CLOSED on Monday, October 16. Check back in Fall 2024 for when applications reopen.

The 2023 cohort of Rising Stars in Machine Learning were invited to a two-day academic workshop at the University of Maryland in College Park to present their research and engage with UMD’s machine learning community. The workshop—held from Tuesday, November 14 through Wednesday, November 15 at the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering—included a primary presentation by each Rising Star in Machine Learning, panel discussions, one-on-one meetings with faculty and students, and other activities. The University of Maryland Center for Machine Learning covers travel and lodging expenses for each Rising Star to attend the workshop, and provides them with an honorarium.
